Artist's Comments

Ok well this one is a bit more obvious than my last one, but I thought it was pretty and gross at the same time. I love that mix!

This is my second entry for $chix0r and $spinegrinder's Anti-Valentines Contest.

TECH
Lighting was standard "glass lighting" for those of you who are keeping score. There is a softbox on either side, pointing more or less towards the camera, so the light goes through the glass and the ice cubes. This is how you avoid the ugly reflections in the glass. The lens is the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX Macro that I love so much. A lot of people have been asking me lately, "What lens should I get for macro and portraits?" This is the one. It's very flexible. It has great color and sharpness, can focus down to about 30cm, and it won't break the bank. What more could a portrait/product/macro photographer ask for?

Cool ideea i think, but a bit too obvious =P

Nice one! I see you're still having a bit of fun with the heart? hehe :D

How do you get such a black background? do you edit it slightly afterwards, or do you have a black background when you take the photo?
:iconkilcan:
Maybe I'm twisted, but this made me laugh when I saw it. Cold hearted indeed... I think I find most humerous that you are the anit-metaphor in this one. Sometimes the literal interpretation of something makes for the best art. I also like the angle and set up of light. It draws you in and the blue shades make it feel all that more cold.

I'm loveable... me!

You're loving that slab of heart, aren't you?

Thank you very much for the tech bits, it's the stuff like that that really helps people like me learn more about photography. Thank you.

added to :+fav: this pic is so cool!

thanks! this will be the last heart photo. i threw the heart in the garbage after taking this one (would have made another great photo! :P) but i thought enough is enough. as for the black background: if you fire the light towards the camera, it doesn't hit the background, so that absence of light makes it nice and dark. :)

The crazy thing about this photo, is that right away I see a face in the heart. It adds to the cold saddness of the photo
